Episode 4 is a special one, we have one game to focus on. The battle for state wide and podcast bragging rights, Miami vs. Florida. Garrett tries to keep Christian and Jean from killing each other as we break down everything thats going to happen on Aug 24th.
So much has happened since Ep.17 and we’re here to tell you all about it! National Championship is tonight, Trevor Lawrence is here to save us from Alabama, but Bama will have some random player step up big, right? Christian drops a Take-Quake and much more….
As the 2018 College Football season comes to a close with the CFP National Championship game on January 7th the college football gods gifted us with some of the most amazing quarterback play in recent history. Just look at Tua Tagovailoa and Dwayne Haskins. Any other year those two guys would have won the Heisman, but Kyler Murray said no sirs! Before the season began I dubbed 2018 the “Year of the Quarterback” on our Podcast “The Playbook Podcast”, and boy was I right! But I was totally wrong! Because 2019 will definitely be The Real Year of the Quarterback. With transfers and high power recruits seemingly growing off of tress who knows where these QBs will go in 2019. And in an era of college football that is dominated by high powered pass happy offense, the sky is the limit.
Thankfully some of the most impressive QBs that we got to see this season are coming back to grace the fields on Saturdays in 2019. First look no further then the National Title game, Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence will both be back. We’ve all seen how exciting Tua can be from the first time he stepped on the field against UGA during last years Championship game. After Trevor Lawrence won the starting job from Kelly Bryant he quickly became the best QB in the ACC. Would anybody be surprised if these were the two QBs facing off in the National Championship after the 2019 season? Probably not.
Lets not forget about some of the other star QBs around CFB. Jake Fromm has nearly beaten the Tide twice in his tenure as the Dawgs starting QB, not to mention he was partially responsible for the transfers of 5-Star QBs Jacob Eason and Justin Fields. Eason will be taking snaps for the Washington Huskies next season after the graduation of 18th year senior Jake Browning. Justin Fields recently transfered to Ohio State. Though it is uncertain if Fields will be the starter as Tate Martell has been waiting in the wings behind Dwayne Haskins. Martell was the former #2 Dual Threat HS QB behind, Tua. Plus Martell has been dropping some cryptic tweets about Fields.
Sam Ehlinger showed that he can lead Texas back to the glory days with his impressive performances against Oklahoma and Georgia. His ability to run and throw will continue to bring Texas success and as long as Tom Herman is calling plays I only have one thing to say.. Okay cool, Hook Em. oh and Ehlinger likes to do this…
Lets not forget about the man many people thought would be the first QB taken in this years draft had he decided to leave school, Justin Herbert. We can only hope that a case of Jimmy Clausen syndrome doesnt effect Herbert when he returns to Eugene. But look out for Herbert to be in the running for the Hiesman late into the season. Especially if he can put up numbers against those average PAC 12 defenses.
Lets not forget two QBs who have started for their teams in CFP games over the last three seasons will be suiting up elsewhere. Kelly Bryant will be at Mizzou and though Jalen Hurts has not officially said he will be transferring it seems to be a foregone conclusion that he will be somewhere other than Tuscaloosa come game 1 2019.
Not to mention countless others who are returning for their senior seasons like Shea Patterson, Ian Book, and KJ Costello or those who will get the chance to continue their growth as starters like JT Daniels or N’Kosi Perry.
SO…. Here are my way to early QB Power Rankings for 2019
- Tua Tagovailoa
- Trevor Lawrence
- Justin Herbert
- Jake Fromm
- Jalen Hurts
- Sam Ehlingher
- Shae Patterson
*These rankings are simply based on a combination of play in the past, skill set, and my opinion. During the season i’ll be able to update this with actual production on the field 🙂
